About the Hungry Jack's Iced Mocha

A Jack's Cafe Iced Mocha is $6.60 and 1,330 kJ. Espresso, chocolate and cold milk over ice, sitting between the Iced Coffee at 757 kJ and the Iced Chocolate at 1,440 kJ.

The balance works better cold than it does hot, which is worth knowing. A hot mocha can have the chocolate dominate as the drink cools; iced, the coffee stays more prominent because cold suppresses the perception of sweetness more than it suppresses bitterness.

At $6.60 it costs the same as the Caramel Fudge Iced Coffee and above the plain iced options, reflecting both the chocolate and the espresso.

It also lasts. Like every iced drink here it holds for an hour where a hot mocha has ten minutes, which is the practical reason iced coffee outsells hot in an Australian summer.

Tips

  • Everything cold. Warm syrup or hot espresso melts the ice and the drink is watery before it reaches the table.
  • Layer the coffee last. Watching it marble down through the milk is half the reason to order one.
  • Less chocolate than an iced chocolate. The espresso needs room to register.
