A Jack's Cafe Long Black is $5.40 and 4 kJ. Four kilojoules, which makes it effectively the lightest thing on the entire Hungry Jack's menu alongside the Short Black.

A long black is espresso poured over hot water, and the order matters. Water first, then espresso on top, which preserves the crema and keeps the drink from tasting flat. An Americano is the reverse, espresso with water added, and it is a noticeably different drink for that reason.

With no milk and no sugar there is nothing in it but coffee and water, which is why the energy figure is what it is. For anyone tracking kilojoules while still wanting coffee, this and the short black are the only options on the menu that cost nothing at all.

  • 92C water, not boiling. Boiling water strips the aromatics as the shot lands.
  • Do not stir it. The first sip through the crema is the point of the drink.
